Sand-Filled Geotextile Container Structures

Sand-filled geotextile containers are increasingly being used for a wide variety of coastal works instead of more traditional materials such as rock.  ICM has been involved in the development of design principles and construction practices for sand-filled geotextile structures.  ICM has been involved in a variety of successful projects including seawalls, groynes and artificial reefs that incorporate containers ranging between 2.5 cubic metres and mega-containers some 20m in length and 5m in diameter [about the size of a bus!].

Geotextile structures have proven effective within the sandy coastal environment.  They also provide benefits in terms of aesthetics, recreation, public safety and, in many cases, cost.  In some conditions they also result in significant ecological benefits.
